Our Mission
KSU Orchestra Society Mission Statement
The Kent State University Orchestra Society’s mission is to support and sustain the success of KSU’s orchestra program. The Board aspires to maintain an excellent student orchestra and is committed to ensuring that the student orchestra program thrives and prospers.
In 1971, following the May 1970 shootings, the university and community faced the challenge of healing and moving on. To that purpose two community leaders joined with two university professors (the director of the Kent Sinfonia and a KSU vice president) to form an association similar to a professional orchestra board. They believed that orchestral music could be the healing force in the larger Kent community. In this context, the Kent State University Orchestra Society was born.
KSU Orchestra Society Vision
The founders of the Society envisioned an enriching musical environment for students, the University, and the community through fundraising, scholarships, and community outreach. This vision remains today.
